FYI: Waffle House, a Southern staple, is embracing the future of EV charging stations to cater to electric vehicle enthusiasts.
Waffle House to Offer EV Charging Alongside Classic Breakfasts
In the heart of the American South, Waffle House has long been a reliable spot for breakfast lovers. Known for its round-the-clock service, it’s now adding another layer to its legacy—electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations, a move set to delight road-trippers and waffle fans alike.
A New Partnership Fuels Change
Starting in 2026, Waffle House will team up with BP Pulse to integrate 400-kilowatt fast-charging stations into their locations. These stations will support both CCS and North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs, making them compatible with Tesla and other EV models. This effort reflects a broader trend to ease EV adoption barriers by pairing charging access with popular destinations.
Enhancing the EV Experience
BP Pulse’s CEO, Sujay Sharma, highlights the significance of this collaboration, stating, "Adding an iconic landmark like Waffle House to our EV charging network exemplifies how partnerships can enhance charging amenities for drivers." Initially, 50 charging stations are planned, though details on the full rollout remain undisclosed.
Convenience Meets Comfort
For EV drivers, isolated chargers in desolate locations have been a persistent challenge. The new strategy focuses on providing charging near amenities. This approach is echoed by brands like Walmart and Mercedes-Benz, who offer stations paired with essential facilities such as restrooms and snacks.
Waffle House’s plan not only addresses charging needs but also allows drivers to enjoy a hearty meal—be it waffles, omelettes, or patty melts—while their car charges. “Charging up while enjoying an All-Star Special makes for a speedy, delightful stop,” notes David Repp, Director of Innovation at Waffle House.
Always Open—Except in Disasters
Famous for its operation during adverse conditions, Waffle House’s 24/7 service is so reliable that the federal government uses the "Waffle House Index" to assess disaster severity. If it’s open, conditions are typically manageable.
Conclusion: A Bright Future on the EV Horizon
Waffle House is set to brighten the journey for electric vehicle drivers across the South, bringing together their iconic dining experience and innovative charging solutions.
