### Volvo ES90: The Next Chapter in Electric Sedans
Volvo’s latest foray into the electric vehicle market has taken the form of the ES90, a sleek electric sedan that promises to redefine the boundaries of range and charging speed. As Volvo’s first mass-produced electric sedan, the ES90 is setting new standards with a formidable WLTP range of 435 miles and a cutting-edge 800-volt battery system, capable of adding 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
### Next-Gen Architecture and Performance
Derived from the same SPA2 platform as the flagship EX90 SUV, the ES90 takes it to the next level by integrating an 800-volt battery pack that ensures super-fast charging when connected to a robust 350-kilowatt DC fast charger. While its sibling, the EX90, might offer a larger build, the ES90 emerges as Volvo’s most advanced electric vehicle due to its impressive tech enhancements.
Equipped with a 106-kilowatt-hour (102 kWh usable) battery pack, the ES90 seamlessly powers dual motors, delivering two driving configurations: the Twin Motor version with 442 horsepower and the formidable Twin Motor Performance variant with a staggering 670 horsepower. The latter propels the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds, while maintaining a capped speed of 112 mph. Additionally, a rear-wheel drive single motor option is available, offering 329 horsepower and powered by a 92 kWh (88 kWh usable) battery, achieving a range of 400 miles.
### Intricate Design and Luxurious Comfort
Although dubbed a sedan, the Volvo ES90 is actually a liftback, featuring an extendable trunk capacity from 14.9 cubic feet to 25.8 cubic feet when rear seats are folded. Moreover, it includes a front trunk, adding 0.7 cubic feet of storage. With a curb weight of 5,787 pounds, the ES90 is engineered for comfort and luxury, boasting “very generous” legroom in the second row courtesy of its 122-inch wheelbase, surpassing that of the EX90.
Exterior-wise, the ES90 is adorned with signature Thor’s Hammer headlights and creatively designed rear lighting. It offers a palette of seven colors and four wheel sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches. Inside, the ES90 seats five and features a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 9-inch driver display, and a sophisticated head-up display, all supported by Qualcomm’s Cockpit Platform.
### Innovative Safety and Cutting-Edge Technology
The ES90 doesn’t fall short on safety and technological sophistication. It integrates a suite of sensors—including lidar, radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors—to perceive and respond to road conditions beyond human capability. An industry-first driver understanding system actively supports the driver’s focus, while the full-cabin sensor technology ensures no occupant is left in the vehicle unattended, even detecting the faintest of movements.
Operated by a powerful dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chip configuration, the ES90 is Volvo’s most adept model in terms of computing power, promising unmatched computational capacity.
### Availability and Pricing
Available for order in select European countries, the ES90 ranges in price from €72,000 to €95,500. Its release in additional markets is anticipated through 2026, albeit with no confirmed timeline for the United States.
