FYI: A surprising chapter in Scottie Scheffler’s car journey concludes as his well-traveled 2012 GMC Yukon XL finds a new home through a charity auction—proceeds benefiting Triumph Over Kid Cancer.
A Golfer’s Unexpected Ride
While acclaimed golfer Scottie Scheffler may have amassed a fortune through his career, his choice of vehicle up until recently was anything but extravagant. Opting for a 2012 GMC Yukon XL, Scheffler clocked an impressive 184,000 miles, touring across the United States. Despite its historical mileage, this SUV managed to capture attention at a recent auction.
High-Mileage, High-Value Auction
Though its Kelley Blue Book value is modest at $8,571, the Yukon XL garnered a starting bid of $50,000. The intrigue? This was no ordinary auction. Proceeds were pledged to Triumph Over Kid Cancer, a charity dear to Scheffler’s heart. The vehicle’s journey began after Scheffler’s family purchased it during a breakdown in Augusta, Georgia, back in 2012. It became his own in 2018 once he turned professional, loyally serving him until its retirement.
Celebrity Car Surprises
Many celebrities have shared stories of unexpectedly humble first cars—Will Smith’s retro Chevrolet Camaro and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s entertaining tales come to mind. Scheffler’s former wheels, however, held not only nostalgic value but a charitable purpose.
A Winning Bid and a New Owner
Scheffler’s decision to auction the Yukon XL came after a conversation with Jim Nantz, renowned CBS Sports broadcaster. Nantz opened the bidding, leading with $50,000 and expressing delight at adding Scheffler’s car to his collection. Post-purchase, he humorously claimed it might even improve his golf handicap.
Charitable Impact
Scheffler’s initiative to auction his vehicle was inspired by his connection to leading figure James Ragan, the late founder of Triumph Over Kid Cancer, which seeks to make a difference in lives affected by childhood cancer. The sale not only symbolizes a personal milestone for Scheffler but also reiterates his commitment to giving back.
