FYI: Tesla’s Model S and Model X to Receive Minor Upgrades in 2025 as Production Volumes Remain Low
Tesla has sparked interest by announcing updates for its Model S and Model X in 2025, even as sales numbers stay modest. Despite recent sightings of these models in California seeming to suggest otherwise, the upgrades appear to be relatively minor.
Low Volume, High Potential
Currently, the Model S and Model X are bundled with the Cybertruck in Tesla’s quarterly reports. In Q1, these vehicles combined delivered just 12,881 units, with the Cybertruck likely constituting a significant portion. Elon Musk previously mentioned that these luxury models exist more for sentimental reasons, noting their limited strategic importance.
Spotting the Changes
Recent images show minimal exterior changes for both models. New features include a front bumper camera—first seen on the Cybercab—and enhanced ambient lighting. The Model S also now sports a rear diffuser, while the Model X shows off sleek 20″ wheels.
Upgrades with a Purpose
While these updates might not dramatically increase sales, they align with Tesla’s focus on enhancing Full Self-Driving capabilities. VP Lars Moravy hinted at more upgrades before the year ends, with the Model S and Model X receiving elements already integrated into the Model 3 and Y.
Maintaining the Legacy
Tesla is balancing innovation with nostalgia by keeping the Model S and Model X relevant. These minor tweaks maintain their charm while incorporating modern tech improvements.
