FYI: Hyundai enhances its EV charging experience with seamless app integration and plug-and-charge features, leveling up with Tesla’s ease of use.
Hyundai EV Charging Gets a Major Boost with Tesla-Like Features
Charging an electric vehicle (EV) is finally getting easier as Hyundai introduces new software upgrades. These enhancements aim to streamline the charging process for Ioniq 5, Ioniq 9, and all future Hyundai electric models. The changes bring Hyundai closer to Tesla’s renowned ease of use in EV charging.
Seamless App Integration
Hyundai has revamped its MyHyundai smartphone app to integrate four major U.S. EV charging networks: Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, EVGo, and Ionna. This means drivers no longer need multiple apps to charge their vehicles. Instead, they can handle everything through MyHyundai, simplifying the process significantly.
Effortless Charging with Plug-and-Charge
A standout upgrade is the introduction of the plug-and-charge feature. Much like Tesla’s system, Hyundai’s plug-and-charge technology allows drivers to simply plug in their vehicle and let it handle the rest. This feature reduces the stress associated with charging by eliminating multiple steps and potential errors at the charging station.
Enhanced Navigation and Payment Systems
The app now allows users to locate charging stations, plan routes, and manage payments with ease. By inputting a destination, the system recommends optimal charging stops, sending them directly to the car’s navigation screen. Adding credit cards to the app enables seamless transactions without the hassle of faulty card readers.
Compatibility and Future Updates
The 2025 Ioniq models are equipped with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, ensuring compatibility with thousands of Superchargers across the nation. Older models can also utilize these chargers with an adapter. Currently, the Kona Electric is not included in this update, but Hyundai plans to expand these features to other models soon.
User-Friendly Interface
The app’s clean interface is designed for easy use. With a prominent "Find Charging Station" icon on the home screen, users can quickly locate nearby stations or those along a specified route. Filters for selecting charger type and connector type make the process even more user-friendly. The selected route is easily sent to the car for display on the infotainment screen.
Conclusion
Hyundai’s latest updates are an important step towards a more cohesive and stress-free EV charging experience, reminiscent of Tesla’s model. While challenges remain in ensuring these systems work flawlessly, the improvements promise to make road trips in Hyundai’s electric lineup much smoother and more enjoyable.
