Reviving Icons with Electric Precision
Electrifying classic vehicles isn’t a novel concept, but it has rapidly gained traction over the past decade. As the automotive world blends history with innovation, the central question emerges: does this transition preserve or undermine the vehicle’s legacy?
Iconic cars, like the revered air-cooled Porsche 911, owe their status to generational admiration. Known for its unique shape, motorsport lineage, and rear-engine dynamics, swapping the timeless flat-six engine for an electric motor inevitably raises eyebrows.
Everrati’s Vision for EV Excellence
Everrati Automotive Limited, a UK-based EV conversion specialist, has garnered attention for its expert craftsmanship in electrifying classics like the Porsche 911. The question remains: can Everrati capture the essence of these icons while introducing electric dynamics that enhance performance?
Recently, I took the wheel of Everrati’s newest build, inspired by the 964-generation (1988-1994) 911 RSR—a model celebrated for its motorsport pedigree.
Introducing Everrati
In a few short years, Everrati has built an impressive portfolio, converting vehicles such as Series Land Rovers and Porsche 911s. The company prides itself on being more than a conversion shop—it’s a leader in EV technology, even designing powertrains for other manufacturers.
According to CEO Justin Lunny, there’s a gap between the multi-million-dollar hypercars and the high-end Porsche Taycan, which Everrati aims to fill with true driver’s EVs.
The Craftsmanship Behind Everrati Builds
Each Everrati project begins with a donor car, often choosing less sought-after models like those with automatic transmissions. These vehicles are then transformed into lighter, more agile versions using carbon-fiber panels crafted by the Aria Group before assembly at Everrati’s facilities.
The converted 964 is powered by two CALB-sourced battery units (64 kWh combined), providing around 200 miles of range—a satisfying figure for a performance EV. A Tesla motor drives the rear wheels, complemented by adaptive dampers for optimal handling.
Driving the Everrati Porsche 964 911 RSR
Driving the Everrati 964 RSR along California’s Pacific Coast Highway, it was evident how well the electric transformation had been executed. The steering’s hydraulic feel and precise response maintained the Porsche essence, thanks to the original 964 rack.
Remarkably, this electrified RSR weighs just 3,220 pounds, delivering a spirited drive with 500 horsepower—a nod to the intense engineering that recreates the 911’s original thrill.
Preservation Through Electrification
For enthusiasts, Everrati’s 964 Porsche 911 RSR elegantly combines stunning looks and an enhanced driving experience. While some purists may resist, the seamless integration of electric tech aims to preserve these classics for future enthusiasts.
