FYI: The redesigned 2026 Jeep Compass makes its debut as a hybrid or EV, boasting up to 375 horsepower.
Revamped Jeep Compass for 2026: An Electrified Future
Jeep has unveiled its revamped 2026 Compass, now exclusively available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric vehicle. Interestingly, this redesign originated in Europe, reflecting a growing global appetite for eco-friendly crossovers, even as these boxy, high-riding wagons continue to captivate American markets.
Sleek Design with Off-Road Chops
The 2026 Compass maintains its classic look but adds a modern twist without veering from Jeep’s established design ethos. Its off-road capabilities are impressive, featuring dimensions slightly enhanced from its predecessor, including a 6-inch increase in length, 8 inches of ground clearance, a 27-degree approach angle, a 16-degree breakover angle, and a 31-degree starting angle. While it won’t compete with the Wrangler on rugged trails, it promises a smooth ride through adventurous terrains.
High-Tech Interior
Inside, the Compass offers a tech-forward cabin. A striking 16-inch horizontal center screen is the focal point, complemented by a 10-inch driver display. Despite the technological sophistication, physical controls are maintained for ease of use. However, the rotating shift knob might not be a universal favorite. The spacious interior remains user-friendly, appealing to families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Five Diverse Powertrain Options
The 2026 Jeep Compass presents a versatile series of powertrain options. Starting with a 48-volt hybrid delivering 145 horsepower, an upgrade to the plug-in hybrid increases power to 195 horsepower. For those preferring full electric, three choices are available: a front-wheel drive model with 213 horsepower, an unspecified option, and a top-tier all-wheel-drive variant producing 375 horsepower.
Charging is efficient, with a capability of up to 160 kW, enabling a charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. The largest battery supports an estimated range of over 400 miles under European tests, though a more conservative EPA rating of around 300 miles is anticipated in the U.S.
Availability: A European Affair—For Now
Currently, Jeep has no plans to bring the 2026 Compass to the U.S., with sales commencing in Europe late this year. This decision ties back to operational considerations at the Brampton assembly plant, as well as international trade challenges. While future availability in the U.S. isn’t off the table entirely, the timeline remains uncertain.
